A New Bedford is sentenced to life in prison today in a Maine court, after being convicted of a double murder.

According to WMTW-TV in Portland, Maine, Joel Hayden of New Bedford was sentenced by a judge in the Cumberland County Courthouse, after he shot and killed his estranged girlfriend, Renee Sandora, and longtime friend Trevor Mills in July 2011 in New Gloucester.

Prosecutors say Hayden thought Mills and Sandora were having a relationship, and killed them out of jealousy.

Hayden and Sandora's 7-year-old son witnessed the murders and has testified against his father.
