
Police: Man Had Defaced Rifle During New Bedford Domestic Incident
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police arrested a man and seized a rifle in an incident Monday evening.
New Bedford Police Respond to Domestic Disturbance on Old Plainville Road
The New Bedford Police Union posted on its Facebook page that in the late evening hours of April 27, officers responded to an Old Plainville Road apartment for a report of a domestic disturbance. While investigating, they learned that Prince Wright, 48, was in possession of a rifle.
Rifle, Ammunition Seized During Search
Officers secured the residence and obtained a search warrant, which turned up an Arsenal SAM7SF 7.62-caliber rifle with a defaced serial number, along with a 30-round feeding device, two Sig Sauer 9mm feeding devices that held 13 and 20 rounds, and various 7.62-caliber and 9mm rounds of ammunition.

According to the NBPU, Wright does not possess a Firearms Identification Card or a License to Carry.
New Bedford Suspect Faces Multiple Firearm Charges
Wright was arrested on various domestic-related charges as well as unlawful possession of a large capacity rifle, possession of a large capacity firearm, unlawful possession of high-capacity feeding devices, possession of ammunition without an FID, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, and defacing a firearm serial number.
Previous Arrest Noted in Police Logs
According to New Bedford Police logs, Wright was previously arrested on March 25, 2026, on charges of vandalizing property, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and aggravated assault.
