NEW BEDFORD — A motor vehicle stop led to a drug arrest Sunday afternoon.

New Bedford Police pulled over a vehicle for several violations in front of Friendly Donut at 2301 Purchase Street Sunday afternoon at about 4:28 p.m. The vehicle was pulled over after it failed to stop or yield to traffic. Police discovered the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured, and had illegally attached plates.

The driver initially gave police a false name, and they later discovered he was driving with a suspended license. Police arrested the operator of the vehicle, 51-year-old Richard Frazier of Davis Street in New Bedford. A subsequent search of his vehicle turned up drug paraphenalia and a small amount of heroin.

Frazier is charged with multiple motor vehicle violations, as well as refusing to identify himself to police, and possession of a Class A substance (heroin).
