A New Bedford man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that took place in Fall River the day after Christmas.

Jeffrey Nunez, 36, of New Bedford was arrested Wednesday, January 12 in connection with the shooting, which occurred on Eddy Street in Fall River on December 26. Nunez was first identified as the suspect by the lead detective on the case, Det. Moses Pereira of the Major Crimes Division.

He was taken into custody without incident with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Violent Apprehension Section and detectives from the New Bedford Police Department. Search warrants for his apartment and vehicle turned up a .45-caliber handgun and ammunition.

Nunez is charged with attempting to commit assault and battery by discharging a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and two counts of vandalizing property.
