NEW BEDFORD — Police responded to an alarm activation at North Star Learning Center, 53 Linden St., and discovered a male in the building. The man destroyed contents in the building.

He would not stop for police as they chased him.

During a scuffle with an officer, he attempted to grab his electronic control device.

Police arrested Jason Fleck, 43, of South Sixth St., New Bedford, on charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony, malicious destruction of property valued over $1,200, attempt to disarm a police officer, disturbing the peace while armed, possession of burglarious instrument, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer and breaking into a depository.

The arrest was made at 11:50 p.m. on Monday.
