NEW BEDFORD — Police arrested a city man Monday for allegedly assaulting a woman outside a convenience store.

New Bedford Police say that a man approached a woman outside the 7-Eleven on Coggeshall Street at about 5:14 p.m. Monday, yelling and threatening to hit her. They say he grabbed her by the arm and shoved her onto the pavement, and also kicked her full bottle of water, which struck her as well.

Another man, who knew the woman, was also chased by the suspect, who police say then made threats to physically harm both the man and the woman.

As a result, police arrested 34-year-old Christopher W. Moniz of New Bedford on multiple assault charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
