NEW BEDFORD — A city man is under arrest after attempting to break into a local market and then running into traffic to try to escape police.

New Bedford Police responded Monday night just before 10 pm to a report of a possible breaking and entering at the Central Food Market on South First Street. They say a man was later seen running from the market into traffic on Route 18, causing vehicles to stop.
