A New Bedford man is arrested after a failed bank robbery attempt.

New Bedford Police say the suspect walked into the St. Anthony's Credit Union on Acushnet Avenue before 4pm Friday, handed the teller a note claiming he had a gun, and demanded money. No weapon was shown, and the suspect fled the bank without any cash.

After looking at surveillance photos of the attempted robbery, police recognized the suspect as 30-year-old Javier Acevedo Ferrer.

Ferrer was found in his Hope Street home and taken into custody, with witnesses to the crime identifying him as the would-be robber. The note used in the attempted robbery was recovered in the apartment.

Ferrer will be arraigned Monday morning in New Bedford District Court on one charge of unarmed assault with intent to rob.
