NEW BEDFORD — A man who already had multiple warrants for his arrest is found slumped over the wheel of his vehicle while intoxicated.

New Bedford Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the area of Gas Express on 52 Tarkiln Hill Road at about 6:22 a.m. Sunday. A witness reported seeing a man sitting in his vehicle, slumped over the steering wheel.

When police arrived, they detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver, 23-year-old Rob DaCosta of Thompson Street in New Bedford. DaCosta refused a field sobriety test.

He was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license. DaCosta also had six warrants out for his arrest.
