A New Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly stole a running car from a residential driveway in Wareham.

Friday at about 9:20 a.m. a resident of the Swifts Beach neighborhood called Wareham Police to say that their car disappeared while it was unlocked and warming up in their driveway. The person told Officer Malik Wilkes that they started the car, went back into the house for a few minutes, and when they came back out, the car was gone.

A report was filed, and all officers were advised to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

At about 1:30 p.m., Officer Wilkes saw the stolen vehicle heading westbound on Marion Road and subsequently stopped it near the corner of Cromesset Road. Three men were detained, and after brief investigation, one of the men was placed under arrest, according to a media release from Wareham Police Chief John Walcek.

Cory A. Reid, 36, of New Bedford, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property in excess of $1,200. Reid was booked at Wareham police headquarters before being transported to Wareham District Court for arraignment.

Sergeant Paul Somers, Officer Jon Verhaegen, and Chief Walcek assisted Reid during the arrest.
