New Bedford Man Accused of Assaulting Pregnant Woman

NEW BEDFORD — Police were called to a report of a disturbance. A man went into the 300-block of North Front Street, where he damaged the door and got inside.

He proceeded to hit the victim, a pregnant woman, and then began to swing and kick at her. A juvenile in the home was frightened by the incident.

Police arrested Jerome Wedge IV, 45, of 17 Sparrow St., New Bedford, on charges of breaking into a building in the daytime for a felony, assault, reckless endangerment to a child, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and vandalizing property.

The arrest was made at 6:39 p.m. July 22.
