New Bedford Man, 20, Arrested for Assaulting Elderly Man

NEW BEDFORD — A 20-year-old New Bedford man is arrested after allegedly assaulting an elderly man.

New Bedford Police responded Wednesday morning at approximately 11:28 a.m. to a report of a 78-year-old man struck with an item on County Street.

Following an investigation, police arrested 20-year-old Steven Laferriera of 74 James Street in New Bedford, on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60.

Police say no injuries were reported.
