NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford’s Independence Day fireworks have been postponed to Monday, July 5 at 9 p.m. due to inclement weather expected this weekend, according to a Friday afternoon release from Mayor Jon Mitchell's office.

The fireworks were originally scheduled for Saturday, July 3.

According to the office, lower Union Street (east of Water Street) will be closed to traffic so that the public can view the fireworks.

The city's fireworks display is sponsored by Hawthorn Medical Associates with a $9,000 donation and BayCoast Bank with a $7,500 donation, the office stated in the release.

Tucker Roy Marine Towing & Salvage and AGM Marine Contractors provided the commercial barge.
