NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford firefighters responded to a vacant convenience store that caught fire early Thursday morning.

On Jan. 5 at 9:30 a.m., multiple 911 calls came in reporting a fire at 7-Eleven, 1024 Cove Road.

Firefighters reported a large volume of fire extending from a doorway on the southeast corner of the building.

Crews extinguished the fire while opening up the roof and front overhang, preventing fire extension.

The building is being renovated and is currently unoccupied. There were no firefighter injuries. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
