New Bedford Festival Theatre Takes Home Big Awards for ‘Joseph’
Our very own New Bedford Festival Theatre just got over a half-dozen awards and recognition from the largest theatre website in the world.
We're not just talking any theatre, by the way. Broadway World is the world's No. 1. website for anything related to, you guessed it, Broadway.
In other words, the big time.
Time and time again we are reminded that we have some of the most talented people living and working right here on the SouthCoast.
New Bedford Theatre's latest run of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat picked up a bunch of winners in Broadway World's regional competition. They are:
Best Choreography Of A Play Or Musical (Professional): Brooklyn Toli
Best Costume Design Of A Play Or Musical (Professional): Syd Lee
Best Direction Of A Musical (Professional): Elizabeth Bettencourt
Best Lighting Design Of A Play Or Musical (Professional): Michael Wonson
Best Music Direction & Orchestra Performance (Professional): Steven Bergman
Best Scenic Design Of A Play Or Musical (Professional): Trevor Elliott
Best Sound Design Of A Play Or Musical (Professional): Jason Choquette
"I'm excited to see New Bedford Festival Theatre thriving and bringing joy to audiences," said Bettencourt, also artistic director.
While this summer season for the New Bedford Festival Theatre will look different due to renovations taking place at Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, Bettencourt said NBFT is focused on what's to come.
"I have a lot of amazing plans for the future of New Bedford Festival Theatre and am hoping these are just the first of many Broadway World awards," Bettencourt said.
Wendy Hall of NBFT said the group will continue its master class series with several community partners. As far as what's set for this year, a performance of Jesse Luttrell’s One Man Show, An Evening with Jesse! is scheduled for March 23, 2024. The first ever Broadway pops concert, Broadway On The Lawn, in partnership with the NBSO and the City of New Bedford, is coming this summer.
