NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — The New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge is expected to be closed to vehicle traffic for several hours today due to a mechanical issue.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced that the swing bridge is expected to be closed to vehicles "for several hours."

MassDOT said motorists who would normally use the Route 6 bridge should seek alternate routes. With the Interstate 195 construction project also ongoing, expect Coggeshall Street and the surrounding area to become extra busy this afternoon.

With an average rating of two stars on Google, our love-to-hate-it SouthCoast landmark proves that it's at least slow enough for those stuck waiting to grab their phones and pour out their feelings online.
