New Bedford Driver Accused of Assaulting Officer
NEW BEDFORD — Police made a traffic stop at Ashley Boulevard and Sawyer Street after witnessing a driver on his cell phone with both hands off the steering wheel. When police stopped the vehicle, the driver was uncooperative, yelling at officers and causing a disturbance.
When police arrested him, he shoved an officer and made threats.
Christian K. Davenport, 34, of 647 Kempton St., New Bedford, was arrested on charges of unsafe operation of a motor vehicle by using a mobile electronic device, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer and intimidation of a witness.
He was arrested at 5:20 p.m. Monday.
