New Bedford's South End beaches have all reopened to swimmers.

The beaches were closed over the weekend because of high bacteria levels following Friday's heavy rains. Water quality tests taken Monday have shown bacteria levels do not pose health hazards to swimmers.

The reopened beaches include East Beach, West Beach, and the beach inside Fort Tabor.

City health officials will continue to monitor the water quality for any significant changes.

However, in Mattapoisett, Leisure Shores' water quality has not yet returned to a safe level for swimming. Samples of the water were taken today and results will be released tomorrow.
