What started as a meaningful way to give back has grown into something truly special on the SouthCoast.

Top Tier Inclusion Foundation is bringing back its 4th Annual Family Fun Day, a free, family-friendly autism awareness event happening Sunday, April 26, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. inside the New Bedford High School gymnasium, and this year, it feels even more personal.

“This is our fourth year now,” said Nicole Franklin, Vice President of Acushnet’s Top Tier Performance fitness facility. “It’s really about bringing people together and just having a great day.”

A Personal Mission Behind the Event

The event benefits the New Bedford Public Schools Special Needs Department, a cause close to Franklin and owner Eddie Cruz.

“We have a child on the spectrum, so we have a great connection with the community,” Franklin said. “We just want to spread awareness and inclusion, and give families a place where everyone can feel comfortable.”

A Day Where Everyone Can Just Be Themselves

“There’s just something really special about watching everyone come together,” Franklin said. “The kids can be themselves, and the parents don’t have to worry. It’s just a genuinely good time.”

There will be free activities like face painting, arts and crafts, and a photo booth (thanks to South Coast Entertainment), plus music and dancing with yours truly, DJ Gazelle. There will also be raffle baskets, food and drinks for purchase, and some special guests throughout the day.

Blazing Saddles Pony Parties and Petting Zoo will be there from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., and Princess Ariel from Ball Gowns & Glass Slippers will visit from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. On top of that, Fun 107 is adding even more excitement by raffling off two tickets to see Khalid in Boston to one lucky attendee.

Lastly, a big thank you goes out to New Bedford High School for opening its doors and helping make the day possible.

A Mother’s Perspective That Started It All

At the heart of it all is Franklin’s daughter, who continues to inspire everything behind the event.

“My children have been my greatest teachers, but Ezra has shown me to slow down, be present, and embrace the beauty in everyday moments,” Franklin shared. “Since her diagnosis at two and a half (years old), she’s opened my heart to understanding that everyone learns and navigates life differently.”

Franklin finished by painting the perfect description of Ezra's infectious energy and love claiming, “Her carefree, no-filter personality and silly spirit will always light up a room and bring a smile to your face," Franklin said.

That’s exactly what this day is all about: creating a space where that kind of joy can be shared with everyone.
