NEW BEDFORD — On May 7, New Bedford Police Gang Unit detectives seized a Glock .45-caliber handgun with four rounds of ammunition while arresting a suspect for an April 30 carjacking and armed robbery.

Ramon Martinez-Colon, 26, of 31 Crapo Street was charged with armed robbery, assault and firearms offenses.

Chief Joseph Cordeiro commended the OCIB, Gang Unit and Detective Division for its proactive policing.

“Despite the additional issues relating to the pandemic, officers continue to go after those who threaten the safety of our city. Their work is exceptional during ordinary times and extraordinary during these times,” said Cordeiro.

Detective Bruce Szyndlar was the arresting officer.
