Among the animal control world, it's one of the busiest weekends of the year. New Bedford Animal Control Officer Manny Maciel says he'll likely spend the few days after the 4th of July looking for pets that were frightened by firework booms.

Maciel says unless you're the owner it's best to stay away from animals that may look frightened.

Maciel says it's a good idea to call your vet to see if there's anything you can do to keep your pet calm during Independence Day celebrations.

He advises keeping your pet indoors until the noisemakers subside.
