New Bedford A Sanctuary City? Mayor Mitchell Says “Not Us”.

As the more brazen and overly vocal mayors across the country and here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts defy President-Elect Donald Trump's plans to punish sanctuary cities, New Bedford Mayor, Jon Mitchell is denying the city is going to be one of them.

He appears to be maybe even to the right of Massachusetts Republican Governor Charlie Baker who is quoted in the Boston Herald saying, " We will remain a global community."

Earlier this week, Mitchell was on WBSM with Barry Richards and denied the Whaling City would be trying to draw undocumented into the city with promises of sanctuary from federal assets looking to deport them. The next year will tell us much more about the actual positions on this matter for both governor and mayor.
