The entire SouthCoast is ready to rock and roll and welcome Joe Jesus’ '50s Night back to New Bedford on July 21, but we here at WBSM wanted to do something extra special to celebrate Joe, his favorite decade, and the event’s big return.

That’s why we’ve partnered with some local businesses to bring you a very special broadcast on July 21 that will be your soundtrack to ‘50s Night.

Beginning at 3 p.m., WBSM will be broadcasting nothing but music from the 1950s – with limited commercial interruption – on 1420 AM, 99.5 FM, and on the WBSM app.

We’ll be playing all the biggest hits from the era of poodle skirts and sock hops, including Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Brenda Lee and many more all the way until 10 p.m. You’ll also hear WBSM personalities and a very special voice throughout introducing some of the songs and “remembering when” in between the music.

We’ll be getting you ready for '50s Night on your way downtown, and then we’ve got your tunes after the event, too. Don’t forget all of the great entertainment planned for the actual '50s Night event.

Then, once you get home and tuck the kids into bed, we’ve got a very special hour of “backseat music” for Mom and Dad to enjoy from 10 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Check out the map of all the great '50s Night activities, see the lineup of entertainment planned downtown, but don’t forget that we’ve also got the music of the '50s right on your radio dial or smartphone beginning at 3 p.m.

This very special radio broadcast to accompany Joe Jesus’ '50s Night is made possible through the very cool cats and kittens at Hair in Motion Cosmetology Academy, Cottage Street Motors, People’s Pressed, Shooting Supply, Jose Matos of Advanced Financial Group, Lech Garage & Auto Body, Empire Ford, Market Basket, Castelo Real Estate and Castle Mortgage.

New Bedford's '50s Night Over the Years

Joe Jesus' '50s Night was a longtime staple of New Bedford's summer schedule with 29 straight years until road construction held it off in 2018. It came back in 2019 following Joe's passing, but it missed 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It made a triumphant return in 2022 and is set to become an annual tradition once again. Take a look at '50s Night over the years.
