NEW BEDFORD — A weekend shooting that sent one man to the hospital is under investigation by New Bedford Police.

New Bedford Police say just after 5:00 p.m., emergency calls came in reporting a shooting in the area of the 250 and 260 blocks of Purchase Street.

Original tips into the WBSM had indicated the shooting occurred in the area of Brownell Avenue.

“There was a shooting incident on Saturday, just after 5:00 p.m.  This incident happened in between the 250 and 260 block of Purchase St., not Brownell Ave.  There was one male victim, transported to the hospital.  We are actively investigating this incident,” said Lieutenant Nathaniel Rodriguez.

No update on the condition of the male victim, the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and who is suspected to have been involved have been released as of yet. Police continue to investigate.
