The mother of the 14-year old Danvers boy accused of murdering his teacher says she loves her son and her heart is broken for the victim's family.

Diana Chism issued a statement through her attorney over the weekend saying she is struggling to understand the crime.

Police say Phillip Chism stabbed 24-year old Colleen Ritzer and dumped her body in the woods.

The "Globe" cites public records showing Chism's parents divorced before he moved to Massachusetts, and his father's access to the children was restricted because of physical and sexual abuse, and a pattern of emotional abuse.
