A proposed "Problem Properties' Ordinance for New Bedford is languishing in a City Council Committee.

Speaking on his weekly radio program, Mayor Jon Mitchell says its  time the Council took a vote on the measure...

The Problem Properties Ordinance would penalize absentee landlords if Police are called to their properties on legitimate calls more than eight times a year.

Critics say landlords should not be held responsible for the actions of their tenants.

The Mayor says the ordinance has been re-written to include language requested by the Council, so now its time for action.

Mitchell says similar laws have worked in other cities, including Boston, and can also work in New Bedford
