Mice Hunt For Goodies In Mass. Senate Chambers

State senators are being urged to end their practice of keeping candy in their desks after mice searching for the treats also chewed their microphone wires.

    Senate President Therese Murray made the plea Thursday during a formal session.

    The discovery was made during an upgrade of the camera system in the chamber to allow for better webcasting.

    During the upgrade, workers found that some of the senator' microphone wires had been chewed by mice.

    Senators and state representatives have traditionally kept candy and other treats in their desks for long sessions.

    The Statehouse, built more than two centuries old, has long been home to mice, which can occasionally be seen scampering about, including in the building's press gallery.

    Murray said if senators want to keep treats in their desks they should be properly sealed. (Associated Press)
