Massachusetts Stop for Macaulay Culkin’s ‘Home Alone’ Tour
The film Home Alone made a big star out of Macaulay Culkin. The movie was a huge box office success when released in 1990, leading to five sequels. It was nominated for two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes and a Grammy Award, and won several other prizes in multiple countries.
Home Alone has become a holiday season classic.
The film's plot has the fictional McCallister family spending Christmas in Paris. The family departs for vacation, unintentionally leaving its youngest member, Kevin, played by Culkin, behind. Kevin is quite literally home alone.
While the McCallisters are away, the notorious "Wet Bandits," played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, attempt to burglarize the family home on Christmas Eve. Kevin has learned of their devious plan and is ready with a series of booby traps to thwart their plans.
According to Jennifer Wood's article, "25 Things You Might Not Know About Home Alone" for Mental Floss, Pesci got the role in Home Alone after both Robert De Niro and John Lovitz turned it down.
