Those standing in support of the teachers at New Bedford High School are planning a rally this Friday at City Hall. The supporters are responding to the implementation of a turnaround plan at the underperforming school, that calls for the replacement of at least 50% of the staff.

Speaking on his weekly radio program, Mayor Jon Mitchell says he's heard the concerns of teachers, and understands their frustrations.

Mitchell says the goal of the turnaround plan is to address those concerns and improve the high school's performance.

The New Bedford Educators Association has received numerous letters of support from area unions in response to the turnaround plan.

Friday's rally is being held at 3:30 on the steps of City Hall.
