MassHire to Host Fair for Workers Affected by Closings

NEW BEDFORD — Following many sudden and unexpected nursing home facility closings in the Greater New Bedford area, MassHire has announced that its Greater New Bedford Career Center will be holding a career fair.

The fair will be held on Thursday, May 9 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 618 Acushnet Avenue.

Those planning to attend the fair should be prepared for on-spot interviews with employers. Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing aides, dietary assistants, and housekeeping assistants are just a few positions that employers are looking to fill. Priority will be given to those who have been employed at the local closing nursing homes which include Bedford Gardens, Bedford Village, Hallmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Manor, and Dighton Care and Rehabilitation Center.

New Bedford is also working with the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, the Department of Public Health, and the Attorney General’s Office to make sure the transition of the residents of the closing nursing homes is as smooth as possible.
