Boston Welcomes Hilary Duff as Northeastern Graduation Speaker

There are certain announcements that instantly take you back, and this is definitely one of them.

I’m not gonna lie: growing, up I had a huge crush on Hilary Duff. I mean, we’re talking full-on Lizzie McGuire era. So seeing her name pop up tied to a college graduation? Didn’t have that on my bingo card, but I’m here for it.

According to Northeastern University, Duff will serve as the 2026 undergraduate commencement speaker, with the ceremony set for April 29.

Northeastern University said that Fenway has become the go-to spot for its large-scale graduations, hosting thousands of students and families for one massive celebration.

So Why Hilary Duff?

Honestly, when you think about who Hilary Duff is and how far she's gone, it all makes sense why she's clearly a perfect candidate for the job. From teen star to businesswoman, actress and mom, Duff is someone who’s reinvented herself more than once, which feels pretty on-brand for a graduating class stepping into the real world.

There’s even talk of a little Y2K nostalgia sprinkled into the ceremony, which takes me right back to the good old days of getting off the bus, turning on the Disney Channel, and decompressing after a long day of learning. Somewhere along the timeline, middle school me is losing his mind.

Safe to say, this might be one of the most unexpectedly fun commencement speakers we’ve seen in a while — and yeah, I kind of wish I had a cap and gown for this one.
