I will confess (and probably make a few enemies in the process) that I've always believed Rhode Island drivers to be among the worst. That says a lot, coming from a guy born and raised in Massachusetts. Many Massachusetts drivers will leave you to quiver and quake behind the wheel.

Present company included.

Having shared the road with drivers on highways and byways in many of the lower 48 states, Canada, Mexico and even Port-au-Prince in Haiti, I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly out there.

Fox News reported on a new Forbes Advisor survey "analyzing 19 'bad' driving behaviors to determine how common they were in certain states."

The Fox report says Forbes looked at "running a red light, eating while driving, and texting behind the wheel," to name a few. Other bad habits included "changing lanes without signaling, cutting other drivers off, and honking/cursing/gesturing at another driver in anger."

They had to have spent time around here, no?

According to Forbes' survey, the 10 states with the best-behaved drivers were Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Delaware, South Dakota and North Carolina.

To my surprise, only two New England states placed in the top 10 worst-behaved drivers – Massachusetts and Rhode Island didn't make the list.

Rhode Island finished in 39th place and Massachusetts came in at 17.

Forbes found the 10 states with the worst-behaved drivers (counting down from best to worst) are West Virginia, Kansas, Vermont, Connecticut, North Dakota, Alaska, Wyoming, New Mexico, Oregon and Hawaii.

Read the complete list on the Forbes website.

Forbes Advisor also lists the top ten states with the worst all-around drivers. You'll be happy to know no New England states are on the list.
