Massachusetts Governor Healey Could Be in AG Bondi’s Crosshairs
2025 has not been a good year for Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, and things could get much worse if the U.S. Department of Justice launches an official investigation into the Commonwealth's immigrant shelter system.
Healey has faced the ire of voters over the cost of providing for many thousands of illegal immigrants, soaring utility costs, declining revenue and a posse of ICE agents led by Trump border czar Tom Homan, who threatened and made good on a promise to "bring hell" to Massachusetts.
The liberal border policies supported by Healey may ultimately be her undoing as she approaches next year's election.
Boston's WBZ-TV reported in January that Healey admitted that CORI background checks on migrants at the state's shelters were not occurring, though she said they were in the spring of 2024. She blamed her staff.
Former shelter director Jon Fetherston is a frequent critic of conditions in Healey's shelter system and has asked U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to conduct a thorough probe into what he tells Fox News is a "disturbing pattern" of criminal activity, sexual assault, and financial abuse that he says is widespread.
Fetherston told Fox, "There is a lot of undocumented violence that goes on," including rape, domestic violence, sex trafficking, and drug dealing.
Since declaring a "state of emergency" in August 2023, Healey's administration has been less than transparent about the activities at the shelters, the cost to taxpayers, and when this might end.
Massachusetts Auditor Diana DiZoglio released an audit report in May, accusing the Healey administration of "improper and unlawful use of emergency procurements." The report focused on "issues pertaining to procurement and contracting with respect to the state's emergency shelter system."
DiZoglio found, among other things, "unlawful no-bid emergency procurements for food and transportation services."

Fetherston blames Healey directly for the "crisis" in the shelter system.
In a statement to Fox News, Fetherston said that "the impact of the Healey administration's hotel shelter policy has been devastating for both residents inside the shelters and the local communities surrounding them."
