Long time educator Marlene Pollock says she will not seek re-election to the New Bedford School Committee this fall. Pollock served eight years on the board and says, its time now for a break.

"Its a lot of work to be on the School Committee and do a good job and I just felt like eight years is a good chunk of time," said Pollock. She added, "my family felt the same way, so it made sense not to run again."

Pollock says the school district is making progress on many issues she cares about, including fewer out-of-school suspensions, increasing the graduation rate, and providing more help for students who have English as their second language.
