The Mark J. Fitzsimmons Memorial Scholarship Fund launched their website this week and broadened fundraising efforts to present its first scholarship award in memory of late Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse head coach Mark J. “Fitzy” Fitzsimmons. This is a new $500 scholarship to assist eligible GNBRVTHS senior lacrosse players to enter college or the workforce.

"The organization’s scholarship committee will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating Voc-Tech senior lacrosse player to assist her or him in their post-secondary or vocational aspirations. Whether students are moving on to a two- or four-year institution or continuing their trade, this scholarship can be used to subsidize some of the costs associated with tuition, books, tools, and professional licensing. ‘This is a great opportunity to reconnect with alumni, foster a positive change in our Voc-Tech community, and continue Fitzy’s legacy,’ said President of the Board Sean Carney. ‘Whether coaching his players on the field or running his business, he gave incredible amounts of himself to his those around him. That’s what we are trying to do here: continue that tradition of giving in his name.’ The organization’s first fundraising event is being planned for the late spring."
