After a long application and interview process, the Marion Select Board has decided to offer Cumberland, RI Assistant Fire Chief Brian Jackvony the position of fire chief.

The Select Board received over 40 applications, and whittled the pool down to six with the assistance of two local fire chiefs from New Bedford and Somerset.

Current Marion Chief Thomas Joyce will be retiring at the end of June and will be replaced by Jackvony if he accepts the offer and successfully completes the contract negotiation process.

If Jackvony declines the offer, the position will be offered to Upton Fire Chief Aaron Goodale.

Acushnet Fire Chief Kevin Gallagher was also considered as the third place candidate.

New Bedford Fire Chief Mike Gomes was one of the six finalists, but did not make the short list for any of the three select board members.
