NEW BEDFORD - New Bedford Police have arrested four people after a drug investigation.

Police say as part of the investigation, 23-year-old Xavier Thompson was seen leaving his North Front Street apartment Monday. Police attempted to stop his vehicle, but Thompson tried to flee, hitting two police cars before he was finally apprehended.

During the stop, police found about 10 grams of heroin in his possession.

Police also searched Thompson's home on a warrant, finding digital scales, cutting agents, plastic bags, and $508 in cash. Thompson is charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to stop for a police vehicle.

Three other people were in the apartment when police executed the search warrant. They were all arrested and charged:

  • Justin Jardin, 22, of 247 Ashley Blvd., Apt. 3, New Bedford, possession of class E substance.
  • Heather Briggs, 28, of 60 Deane St., Apt. 1S, New Bedford, possession of class A substance and a warrant arrest.
  • Shawneen Anne Lopes, 42, of 101 Phillips Ave., Apt. 1W, New Bedford, warrant arrest.
