Man Sentenced for Sexually Assaulting New Bedford Child
NEW BEDFORD — A former New Bedford resident who sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend's pre-teen relative on multiple occasions has been sentenced to eight to 10 years in state prison.
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office said that Wayne Vincent, 62, of Worcester pleaded guilty to charges of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 in Fall River Superior Court on Aug. 4.
From 2007 until 2015, the pre-teen victim lived with her relative and Vincent in New Bedford.
The defendant forced the victim to perform sexual acts at least twice during that time, the D.A.'s office said. He also touched her indecently and forced her to kiss him.
According to the District Attorney's Office, the abuse wasn't reported until 2018, when Vincent contacted the victim via social media.
He was then living in Worcester.
The renewed contact resulted in the victim telling her mother about the abuse.
Vincent will be placed on five years of additional probation following his release from prison.
