A man found trapped beneath a motor vehicle Monday evening apparently fell into the roadway prior to being struck, authorities said.

On December 21 at about 7:47 p.m., Fall River police and EMS personnel responded to the area of 600 Second Street for reports of a motor vehicle versus pedestrian accident. Officers arrived and located a 47-year-old man trapped under a vehicle. The pedestrian victim was freed and transported to St. Anne’s Hospital, where he died, according to Fall River Police Lt. Jay D. Huard.

The department's major crimes detective, accident reconstruction, and crime scene units responded to the scene for a follow-up investigation. The investigation revealed that the pedestrian had fallen in the roadway prior to being struck, the department said in a media release.

The operator of the vehicle  was identified as a 52-year-old man. He was summoned to Fall River Second District Court for operating a vehicle with no driver's license. He has not been cited for any role in the accident at this time, police said.
