Man Identified in Fatal Taunton Speed Boat Crash
TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) — Authorities have released the identity of a New Hampshire boater who was killed in a collision during the Bill Giles Memorial Regatta in Taunton.
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office confirmed Sunday that 39-year-old Mark Greene died on Saturday following a three-boat crash involving his hydroplane watercraft.
The Boston Globe reports that Greene's death is the second time in five years that a person has died racing at Watson Pond State Park.
Taunton Deputy Fire Chief Scott Dexter says the crash occurred during the high-speed race's first turn.
Two other boaters were injured, including 67-year-old Stephen Joy. The Bangor, Maine man remains in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
The South Shore Outboard Association, the regatta's organizer, didn't return requests seeking comment.
