NEW BEDFORD— Firefighters responded to a house fire at 141 Myrtle Street in New Bedford Saturday evening.

Crews responded to the scene just after 5 p.m. where they were met by smoke and flames. Firefighters were able to locate a man on the second floor and rescue him successfully at the scene.

The man was transported to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The fire left behind extensive damage to the second floor.

The identity of the victim has not been released at this time and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
