A man carrying a loaded gun was arrested in New Bedford Thursday.

According to the Standard Times, police were called to the corner of Cottage and Willis Streets before 10pm Thursday night where reports of a fight involving as many as fifteen people were called in.

While police were clearing the crowd, they noticed a man who walked away. The man walked into a nearby driveway, crouched down briefly between two cars, and then got up.

Police checked the spot in the driveway and found a .38 revolver loaded with six bullets.

Police seized the weapon and arrested 21-year-old Gregory Mendes II of Rockway Street in New Bedford. Mendes is charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and unlawful possession of ammunition.
