A New Bedford man is under arrest after police say he tried to rob the same business twice.

Det. Capt. Steven Vicente says that at around 7 p.m. Monday a man entered the 7-11 located at 1499 Acushnet Ave with a bandana covering his face and made a gesture in his waistband indicating he was armed.

The man demanded money then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The same man then entered the Petro Mart located at 171 Coggeshall St. and attempted to rob the store at knife point.

However, the clerk refused to hand over any money and the suspect, who was wearing a bandana covering his face, fled the store.

He then returned to the same 7-11 he robbed earlier and attempted another knifepoint robbery.

However, the clerk refused to hand the suspect any money and he fled again without getting anything.

The suspect, identifed as 36-year-old Michael Scott Nichols, was then located hiding in a driveway on Deane St. and taken into custody without incident.

The knife and bandana were also recovered.

Vicente says Nichols was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning in New Bedford District Court on one count of Armed Robbery while masked, and two counts of Armed Assault with intent to rob.
