A New Bedford man is facing charges after police say he took money from a tip jar.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says that at around 9 p.m. Tuesday officers responded to a disturbance at the Subway at 2072 Acushnet Ave.

Upon arrival they observed the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Edward Silva, reaching over the counter at the register.

The employees told police that Silva was very irate when he came into the restaurant and demanded one hundred dollars.

He then reached into a tip jar and took an undetermined amount of money.

Officers arrived at this time and Silva was taken into custody without incident.

Vicente says he wasn't armed and no employees were hurt.

Silva was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in New Bedford district court on one count of Unarmed Robbery.
