The last time I contacted Heather Terpeny, aka "Terpedo" of Mass Attack Roller Derby, the league was in Taunton and looking for a new home. In our What's New? blog, Fairhaven's Carousel Family Fun Center will be home sweet home for Mass Attack Roller Derby, an internationally ranked women's flat track roller derby league! The 2016 season on the South Coast promises to offer an action packed sport of skating speed and dexterity, starting with their home opener on May 14.

For those of us who have memories of roller derby on black and white television where the women pushed each other over the rail and into the folding chairs, you can forget about that happening here. There is no rail or tilted race surface, but let there be no doubt that this sport is mentally and physically tough, even if the lady athletes wear all kinds of protection. This sport is about roller speed, agility, cleverness and balance. Players have to skate fast enough to complete 27 laps in five minutes, while trying to get past the rough blockers and more! Flat track roller derby has an LGBT friendly culture, according to league members.

It will be great if you tell your friends and show up to support this league of sensational roller skating athletes! If you have any questions, email them at massattackrollerderby@gmail.com.
