Local police in Massachusetts want the right to cross town lines in pursuit of motor vehicle offenders. Dozens of chiefs showed up at the State House yesterday to testify before the Joint Judiciary Committee.

As it is, police can't follow a speeder across city lines without probable cause that a crime had occurred.

Supporters say a proposed bill would prevent drunk drivers from evading police and prevent criminal cases from being thrown out in the courtroom.
