NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police arrested a defense lawyer after an officer spotted him snorting cocaine in his vehicle parked outside a city police station.

The incident occured Wednesday morning outside the downtown station at 572 Pleasant Street.

According to court documents, a New Bedford police officer saw 53-year-old Albert F. Cullen III of 462 E 7th Street in Boston park in front of the station in a 2012 Toyota 4-Runner. He observed Cullen remain behind as a passenger exited the front seat of the vehicle. The officer then saw Cullen roll up a bill and snort a substance. When confronted by the officer, Cullen admitted that it was cocaine, and that he had more in his wallet.

A search of Cullen's vehicle revealed cocaine and heroin in his possession, police said. He was arrested at 12:07 p.m.

Cullen was arraigned Wednesday in New Bedford District Court, and was released on personal recognizance. He must withdraw from all his pending cases. Cullen works as a defense attorney in the New Bedford court.
