Tulip season is just about here, but not every farm that usually features fields of these flowers is going to be opening for the 2022 season.

Golden Hour Farms in Lakeville made the sad announcement last week that they would not be able to open this spring. A bad growing season in 2021 had left their fields far too watery for a new batch of blooms and now the 2022 season has been scrapped completely.

Though many preseason tickets had been sold, Golden Hour vowed to fully refund all of them and even apologized to photographers who had made plans to use the fields as a seasonal backdrop. A definite bummer for people who loved making the spring trek to see the tulips, but there are still a few places to go.

Furthest away is Tip Top Tulips in Ipswich. The main field of gorgeous blooms is on Lowes Lane, right behind the Ipswich Dairy Queen, and features row after row of mixed tulips.

You can walk around the fields snapping photos and snipping blooms for your own bouquet or stop in on a Sunday morning for a goat yoga class followed by tulip picking. The fields at Tip Top are just about ready for visitors, with opening day possible by tomorrow or Saturday. Tulips will definitely be at their peak for Mother's Day weekend, making it a great day trip for moms.

In the other direction from the SouthCoast is, of course, Wicked Tulips Flower Farm in Exeter, Rhode Island. Wicked Tulips has relocated a few times over the last couple of years but continues to be a mecca for tulip lovers.

Their fields at the Exeter farm on Hog House Hill Road should be opening this Saturday as well with peak picking on Mother's Day weekend. Wicked Tulips also has a second farm in Preston, Connecticut, though that location isn't opening until early May.

Much closer to home is Osamequin Farm at the corner of Walnut and Prospect streets in Seekonk. This farm has a lot going on all year, but in April they open their tulip fields for those interested in pick-your-own.

Osamequin Farm began their pick-your-own tulip season April 20, so they may close earlier than others on our list. Still, tulip season usually lasts about two weeks once the blooms are at their peak, so all three area farms should be open through Mother's Day.
