KG Urban Weighs In On Latest Casino Stalemate
With deadlines looming for the final gaming license in Massachusetts, KG Urban Enterprises isn't giving up yet on a potential waterfront casino in New Bedford.
Mayor Jon Mitchell says a development in that location is not what's best for the city. Mitchell had suggested earlier this week to place a casino complex including a hotel and parking garage along Route 18 and MacArthur Drive.
Andrew Stern, managing director of KG Urban, says the waterfront location was key to the company's interest in the city.
Stern's father, NBA Commissioner David Stern, has recently spoken with Mayor Mitchell and that conversation may lead to a meeting between city planners and KB Urban's technical and design staff.
The mayor has suggested a casino on the waterfront will take away business from downtown and will tie up land that could be used for other water related business.
KG Urban must submit their application to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission by March 16th.
