Congressman William Keating won decisively over Republican challenger Mark Alliegro Tuesday night.

The 9th Congressional District race was called before 11pm Tuesday. With just over 60% of precincts reporting, Keating had secured over 106,000 votes to Alliegro's roughly 61,000.

Keating tells WBSM News that attention to local issues is what propelled his campaign. "In such a divisive time, I kept hearing back three words, 'you helped me.' We've always put the highest premium on helping people individually and their families, and the old-fashioned public service is where you do that and I think that was part of what happened here."

Keating says he will continue to focus on developing the maritime industry, specifically offshore wind in Massachusetts, as well as continuing efforts to combat terrorism through his roles on the House Homeland Security Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee.
